Youth City Council
The mission statement of the South Weber Youth City Council is to give back to the community by learning new skills and responsibilities. As the future leaders of America, we will strive to provide service to those in need, create events that build community ties, learn how to be strong leaders in difficult times, understand the political process of our American government system, and learn to budget and be fiscally responsible. As we learn to work together, we will endeavor to promote and strengthen a spirit of unity within ourselves and in our community.
The South Weber Youth City Council term runs from September 1st – August 30th. All youth ages 14-18 are welcome to apply. The YCC accepts applications beginning the second week of August until the end of the month. Youth City Council members help with numerous events within the city including; Daddy Daughter Date Nights, Mother Son Date Nights, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Movie Night in the Park and other events during Country Fair Days, and Breakfast with Santa. They also help with senior lunches at the Family Activity Center, organize service projects, and are responsible for finding and interviewing residents in the community for the Citizen’s Spotlight in the city’s newsletter. Members of the YCC also go on numerous field trips to better help understand how their community functions, for example the Davis County Animal Shelter, Davis County Landfill, South Weber Fire Department, Weber Basin Water and so much more!
Members of the YCC meet monthly an are expected to participate in at least 80% of the meetings. Failure to attend may result in being removed from the council. Youth City Council is set up just like our own city government and will have a mayor and city council members. These members are expected to create agenda items, record minutes, vote on agenda items and make plans.
